Frequently asked questions
What is BeneBox?
BeneBox is an online charity box dedicated to a cause you care about. You have to download it first and choose your charity. Then it will appear at online checkouts after you pay and ask you to round up the change to donate later. It's a browser extension so it only works on laptop or desktop computers.
Get BeneBox for FREEHow does BeneBox work?
Shop online as normal and BeneBox will appear after you have paid and ask if you want to save the change for your chosen charity. The change is the amount of money needed to round up the price to the nearest £1, £5 or £10 (depending on the cost of your shopping).
When you save the change you are not making any payment. You are adding virtual money to BeneBox and pledging it to your charity, to donate later.
BeneBox can donate all the change in your BeneBox whenever you want. Just click ‘donate’ and you'll be taken to the BeneBox website to make a secure card payment.
You are in complete control of saving and donating.
Get BeneBox for FREEHow does the charity receive my donation?
You can tell BeneBox to donate your saved-up change whenever you want. BeneBox sends 100% of your donation to your charity, along with the donations of all the other BeneBox members who have chosen that charity.
Get BeneBox for FREEDoes all the money go to my charity?
Yes, we send 100% of the money that you donate to your chosen charity. So if you donate £5, then your charity receives £5.
You will be charged a donation fee of 30p when you donate. This is to cover the fee that BeneBox pays the payment provider to take the payment.
So for example, if you donate £5 then your donation bill would look like this:
Donation to your charity £5
Donation fee 30p
Total cost £5.30
If you choose to use Gift Aid then your charity will receive an extra 25% of your donation. This will not cost you anything extra. So in the example above, your charity will effectively receive £6.25.
Get BeneBox for FREEAre BeneBox donations eligible for Gift Aid?
Yes, you will need to agree to a ‘Gift Aid declaration’ when you first donate. It will then apply to all your future donations through BeneBox, so you only need to do it once.
This means your charity will receive an extra 25% of your donation. This will not cost you anything extra. So if you donate £5, your charity will effectively receive £6.25.
